Mangia’s new game room is open 7 days a week from 3pm to close. Pool tables, steel-tipped dart boards, pinball, old school arcade games, flatscreen TV and a newly built bar. The game room can accommodate up to 28 people and can be rented out for celebrations, birthday parties, anniversaries, holiday parties and more. Dedicated bartender available. Prices vary on time and event of date.

About Us

Richard “Doc” Parmley and his wife Micci opened Mangia Italiano in 1983 as a fresh pasta shop and Italian delicatessen. According to legend, Doc introduced Saint Louis to a newfound Italian drink called espresso which quickly became a staple of the South City bohemian culture.

When Mangia opened, Doc imported several pasta machines from Italy and set to work on finding the perfect combination of simple, pure ingredients to provide the city of Saint Louis with great fresh pasta.

Over the years, Mangia evolved into a full service restaurant, still focusing on fresh pasta and local ingredients. As the pasta gained popularity, many of the city’s finest restaurants started featuring it on their menus.

Restaurateur David Burmeister purchased Mangia Italiano in October 2001 with partners Paul Smith, Landis Irvin, and Russell Davis. After a complete kitchen overhaul, the partners reopened the business in February 2002. Retaining the funky Formica tables and constant work-in-progress mural by artist Wayne St. Wayne, Burmeister was driven to maintain an eclectic atmosphere with great dining options.

In February 2011, Mangia was reopened by former patron James Bonsanti, a resident of south Saint Louis with over 15 years of experience in the service industry. The restaurant underwent minor renovations, the menu was revamped, and local beer and liquor selections were expanded.

Growing up in an Italian household, James began cooking with his mother and five sisters at a very young age. Later he attended culinary school at Forest Park Community College. He has cooked in many fine restaurants in Saint Louis, including Zhivago's, Catering St. Louis, Sam's Steakhouse and Cafe Balabans. Some of James' specialties include seafood, wild game and sauces.
